MEET THE TEAM: ELISE JAMIESON

We would like to warmly welcome our newest member of the team, Elise. Having recently graduated from Memorial University’s Mechanical Engineering program, Elise is eager to dive into the ever-changing and expanding construction world. She will fill the role of Junior Project Engineer (in training) assisting in many critical functions to the delivery team and overall success of Vigilant. She is intuitive and dedicated, wanting to learn all there is to know about construction and we know she will do great things with us.

Background

Elise spent her Co-op terms accumulating as much experience as possible, performing numerous different jobs in numerous different roles. Throughout this, she garnered enough experience to determine where her true interests lay. She concluded that construction and project management was what she wanted to do. It is a challenging role but is highly interactive, and for Elise, it is highly rewarding.

What made you want pursue this career path

Elise was initially intrigued by the joint technical and social aspect that being a PM entails. Elise enjoys projects that test her and make her think, however, she also enjoys the ability to communicate and work with people. Delivering an incredible end product to a client while building a strong relationship with them is a driving force for her. The other aspect she loves is that she gets to see her hard work delivered into a tangible end product and know how many people came together to get it done. It is a gratifying process and she can’t wait to become an integral part of the PM team.

Experience

Over her work terms, Elise performed just about everything an engineering student could have done. Her first work term had her taking helicopter rides to the snow-covered Table Mountain with the Coast Guard to observe the replacement of a generator. She also learned how to be more approachable and understanding as she spent a term with MUN Engineering Outreach. Here she instructed a summer camp, as well as working with students virtually through Supplemental Instruction sessions. Elise also has strong technical skills which was demonstrated through her work term with Avalon Holographics, where she focused on designing a tool to hold holographic projectors in place for installation. For her final co-op term, Elise travelled to Kelowna, BC to work with PCL. During her time there she directly dealt with subcontractors on multiple BC Hydro projects and reviewed drawings for the renovation of YLW Airport in Kelowna. Elise is adaptable and learns quickly, this is why she will thrive in this industry as each project holds its own unique set of challenges and obstacles.

What are you most looking forward to working at Vigilant

A key reason Elise picked Vigilant is because of the positive things she heard and the wealth of experience we have on hand. It’s an environment where no question will ever go unanswered, as people such as Holly Hicks, Lloyd Hussey, and Ian Duffett have seen almost everything the industry has to offer. The work environment Vigilant possesses is something Elise can’t wait to be fully immersed in, the sense of family present is something she said is beneficial and extremely unique.

Hobbies

Outside of work, Elise enjoys staying active by going to the gym, hot yoga, and general outdoor activities, including playing with the Swilers Rugby Club for the last couple of years. She also enjoys more relaxed indoor activities, like crocheting and reading, when the weather in St John’s is less than ideal.

We are thrilled to have Elise on board with us at Vigilant. She brings a new dynamic and energy to our team and she wants to learn everything she can. We have no doubts she will do just that and we are looking forward to it.
