Ewan Mackenzie

Quick introduction

Hi, my name is Ewan Mackenzie, I am a third-year business student who spent two years at Memorial University in Newfoundland and recently transferred to Saint Mary's University this past fall. I am majoring in marketing as I always enjoyed the courses in my two years at MUN. This is my first work term and I am extremely excited about it. Vigilant just seems like a great place to work and the perfect place for it.

Some hobbies you enjoy

Outside of work, I enjoy working out and playing football. As I sometimes get “the zoomies”, making sure I stay active is very important to me so I don't start bouncing off the walls. Along with this, I enjoy playing video games as I find it helps me unwind and just relax in general unless I’m unfortunately playing any EA sports game which usually ends up with me becoming as far away from relaxed as possible. I also really enjoy going out and doing things with my friends. In my opinion, there is almost nothing more fun than some last-minute not even remotely thought-out plans.

Job title and responsibilities

My job title for this work term is Business Development and Marketing Coordinator. My responsibilities are mostly centered around creating marketing material. Some tasks I will be assigned will be designing ad campaigns, assisting in redesigning the website and designing ways to market new services. I will also be contributing to the overall running of the business in ways such as tracking hours and assisting with the hiring process of new employees. One thing I'm really looking forward to is being a part of the hiring process for the next set of co-op students.

What you hope to learn

I hope to learn a lot about how overall marketing performance is affected by different strategies. Learning an idea in the classroom and actually applying it are two very different things. It's an interesting challenge but I am certainly looking forward to it. Actually understanding how a business is run in the real world is also very interesting to me and something I hope to soak up a lot of knowledge about. I feel this work term will also improve my critical thinking skills and my ability to problem-solve and implement the best possible solution.

What do you plan on pursuing in the future

In the future, I will continue pursuing my degree in Marketing and finish up school. I would also like to see where my football journey will take me as I would like to make the most out of the opportunity I have been given. Outside of that, I would love to travel and pursue a career somewhere in Europe, I absolutely love warm weather so a place such as Spain is very intriguing to me.

Emma Murnaghan

Quick introduction

My name is Emma Murnaghan and I am from Donagh, PEI. I am 20 years old and currently in my third year of Civil Engineering at Memorial University. This is my fourth work term, but my first with Vigilant.

What are some hobbies you enjoy

My hobbies include going to the gym, taking hot yoga classes, traveling, spending time with my friends and family, and trying new healthy recipes. Being from PEI, I love spending time at the beach - whether it be playing a game of spikeball with my friends, going paddle boarding or kayaking, taking my dog for a walk, or having a bonfire.

Job title and responsibilities

My position at Vigilant is a Junior Project Manager where I work closely with the project management team and assist them with various tasks. My responsibilities include generating and reviewing invoices, preparing change order documentation, completing project takeoffs, attending project meetings, taking meeting minutes, and assisting the cost estimation team.

What you hope to learn

During this work term, I hope to enhance my project management skills and expand my knowledge in the construction industry. I would also like to learn more about cost estimation. I believe that in order to be a successful project manager, it is important to have a complete understanding of the costs that are involved in a project.

What do you plan on pursuing in the future

In the future, I aspire to have successfully completed my civil engineering degree and establish a career in the construction industry as a project manager. I am determined to work towards becoming a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) and a Project Management Professional (PMP). My long-term goal is to be an entrepreneur and operate my own engineering company.
